Jamie Redknapp compared Jude Bellingham to midfield royalty such as Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard after his brilliant display in England’s 6-2 thrashing of Iran in their World Cup opener.

The £130 million-rated midfielder (SPORT), who has been linked with a move to Liverpool as per the Athletic was exceptional in his first-ever start in a major tournament from start to finish.

Much like Frank Lampard, the Borussia Dortmund talisman showcased how decisive he can be in the final third by powering in a tremendous header to open the scoring for the Three Lions.

And in a similar vein to Steven Gerrard, the 19-year-old burst past a couple of defenders to find Harry Kane, who assisted Raheem Sterling’s well-taken strike.

For his impeccable pre-assist for Jack Grealish’s goal, Bellingham played a pass that both legends would have been proud to have back in their heydays.

After England started their World Cup campaign in style, Jamie Redknapp said (via Football Daily), “I remember Stevie [Gerrard] when he was 17 years old in the Liverpool dressing room and you just realised you were in the presence of greatness, because they move the ball differently. I think Jude’s [Bellingham] a little bit like that.”

Redknapp continued, “But Jude, he said it in an interview before the game; he just wants to be known as his own man.”

“But they [Gerrard and Bellingham] are alike. They’re great midfield players and generational, to be honest. I think Stevie and Frank Lampard, he’s a little bit of everything, Jude. That’s what I like about him, he’s very controlled, he’s just an exceptional young man.”

The fact that Jude Bellingham is already being mentioned alongside legends such as Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard is a testament to the lofty expectations placed on this uniquely gifted midfielder.

But then again, Rio Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel that the young buck is better than the likes of Gerrard and Lampard were at his age, which shows that the world believes the sky is the limit for the sensation.
