The former Leeds United boss has had his say after Lewis Cook was sold.
Former Leeds United manager Neil Redfearn has been speaking to Radio Yorkshire about the possibility of more first-team stars leaving Elland Road this summer.
In an interview broadcast on Monday morning from 9:40am, Redfearn was asked if he thought anyone else would follow Lewis Cook out the door after the England under-19 international joined Bournemouth in a £10million deal.
“There must be a reason,” Redfearn said. “To make the camp a healthy camp and a healthy atmosphere then some people have to leave.
“The thing is with younger players you can stamp the mark of the club. Usually that is better done with young players.”
The problem is some of Leeds young players are also among their best, with Charlie Taylor’s contract situation meaning he could ultimately follow Cook and Sam Byram into the top tier.
Leeds manager Garry Monk will of course be hoping Taylor will stay and help his side earn promotion back to the top flight, but if a big-money offer comes in owner Massimo Cellino may struggle to turn it down.
Redfearn clearly understands the importance of keeping the squad size healthy and with six new arrivals already this summer and more expected to follow, it would be no surprise if Cook was not the last Leeds man sold during this window.
