Former rival boss Neil Redfearn has given his view on Sheffield Wednesday’s start to the season.
Former Leeds United and Rotherham United boss Neil Redfearn has told Radio Yorkshire he is not impressed with Sheffield Wednesday’s start to the season.
Redfearn was commentating for the station last month as Leeds United secured a surprise 2-0 away win at Hillsborough against the Owls, who took four points games from the Whites last season.
The ex-manager believes the furore surrounding Fernando Forestieri, who refused to play in a game last month amid transfer speculation, has unsettled the team, and they look nowhere near the polished team which reached last season’s Wembley play-off final.
Redfearn said, speaking to Radio Yorkshire on Wednesday (7/9) at 6pm: “Forestieri is a big prblem for them, that sent waves through the club which were not good.
“Sheffield Wednesday were shocking. Players were throwing their arms up at one another. Something is not the same about them this year as they were last year.
He added: “With time they will find their feet. They have good players.”
The season started well enough for Sheffield Wednesday as they beat Aston Villa 1-0 with a Forestieri winner, but the next game against Norwich was the one he missed, and they have been in a tailspin ever since, despite his public apology.
The international break may have come at a good time to regroup, and they have since added high profile free agent Urby Emanuelson, which will boost squad morale.
They currently sit 19th in the table, with no wins since the opening day, and face 20th placed Wigan Athletic at Hillsbrough this weekend in real need of a confidence boosting win.
