Redfearn confirms Bianchi’s injury not as bad as first feared, could return this season

The Leeds midfielder’s operation has gone well, according to his manager.

Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn has confirmed midfielder Tommaso Bianchi’s knee surgery has been a success, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The Italian recently suffered a knee ligament problem which was initially believed to have ended his season.

Reports later surfaced, however, that Bianchi could return to action for Leeds sooner than expected.

And now Redfearn has confirmed the midfielder may feature for his side as early as this campaign, with his injury not being as bad as first feared. The 26-year-old has also now undergone surgery on his knee.

“Bianchi’s had his operation and it’s not as bad as first feared,” the Leeds boss told reporters. “I’m hoping he’ll be back before the end of the season.”

Bianchi has struggled for form in recent weeks but, as Opta stats show, he has still completed far more passes in the Championship this season than any other Leeds player, both in total and in terms of his average per game.

Unfortunately for the 26-year-old, injury struck as soon as he broke back into Redfearn’s team.

The Italian, however, could now prove a useful option at the very business end of the campaign should he return to fitness early, when Leeds could need vital points – either to guarantee their safety or possibly secure a respectable top-half finish.
