Thomas Christiansen is coming under increasing pressure at Leeds United.

Former Leeds United manager Neil Redfearn has defended manager Thomas Christiansen on Radio Yorkshire by criticising the influence of Victor Orta.

Director of football Orta was the man behind the majority of Leeds’ summer deals, many of which have come under criticism in recent weeks as the Yorkshire giants have lost seven of their last eight outings.

It has seen the pressure on former APOEL Nicosia manager Christiansen go up a number of notches, with the Whites’ next clash coming against former manager Garry Monk and his Middlesbrough side.

Redfearn showed his sympathy for Christiansen, questioning how a manager can be judged when he is not the person signing the players, claiming that Monk may have left the club last summer for the same reason.

“I think it’s tough for him [Christiansen],” Redfearn said. “At the beginning of the season when everything is new and fresh, ‘we’re all in it together’, it’s obviously not true.

“Victor Orta brings the players in, I’m not sure how much input Christiansen has. But this is probably one of the reasons Garry Monk decided to leave. How can you be judged as a manager if you haven’t brought the players in?”

The Whites now sit in a lowly tenth place, after promising signs at the start of the season saw Leeds closing in on the automatic promotion places.

However, Christiansen will be desperate to put a bad run of form behind him with all three points against Middlesbrough on November 19, in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
