Red Star Belgrade manager Vladan Milojevic has paid tribute to Tottenham Hotspur after the Serbian giants were thrashed 5-0 in North London during Tuesday’s Champions League group stage clash, in quotes reported by Blic Sport.

Spurs went into the game needing not only a win but a performance too after tasting victory in just one of their last six matches in all competitions, a horror run which included an EFL Cup humiliation at Colchester and a 7-2 thrashing by Bayern Munich.

Fortunately, Mauricio Pochettino’s side looked reborn in front of a raucous home crowd, producing a display full of energy, speed and creativity. Harry Kane and Heung Min Son netted twice while Erik Lamela also capped a fine display with a goal.

This was Spurs’ best performance of the season, reminiscent of their 2014 – 2017 vintage, with Kane, Son, Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli looking back to their very best.

It wasn’t all bad for a defensively suspect yet forward-thinking Red Star, who had a number of chances themselves and managed 13 shots on goal, though coach Milojevic has admitted that the gulf in class was just too vast.

“I would like to congratulate the host on the well-deserved victory. The scoreline is certainly too high but it’s not easy to play against Tottenham,” he said.

“What makes me happy is that we had 13 shots on goal which is an indication that we were trying.

“Tottenham are strong in transition, they are physically fast, powerful. These are all top players, every mistake they managed to punish.”

If Tottenham can replicate this sort of performance in the weeks to come, it won’t be long before talk of a crisis and the so-called ‘end of an era’ is silenced.
