After a drawn out transfer saga which threatened to turn sour, Davinson Sanchez clinched his move to Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

Ajax had been determined not to sell the Colombia international, who had only joined on a five-year deal from Nacional in 2016.

His tremendous performances for Ajax convinced Tottenham to pay a record fee for his services, which the Evening Standard report has cost £40 million.

Despite controversially missing one of Ajax’s league fixtures after becoming distracted by Tottenham’s move, Sanchez’s transfer eventually went without a hitch and he leaves on good terms, with Ajax receiving eight times the figure they paid for him a year ago.

Sanchez sent a message on Twitter thanking Ajax for their support.

Sanchez became the first Ajax defender since Jan Vertonghen to score six goals in a season, and will improve an already strong Tottenham defence.

As well as Vertonghen, he links up with former Ajax stars Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen in North London.
