Liverpool lost 2-0 away at Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday night.
Liverpool suffered a miserable Tuesday evening, as they were surprisingly beaten 2-0 by Serbian side Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.
The Reds were expecting to coast past Red Star having already beaten them at Anfield, but a dismal first half showing left Jurgen Klopp’s men with a mountain to climb – something they couldn’t do.
It was a torrid night for all connected with Liverpool, but one man who may have been interested in the game for positive reasons as ex-Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.
The Daily Record recently reported that Celtic had been scouting Red Star in the Champions League, with The Scotsman noting that striker Milan Pavkov may have been a target.
It just so happens that the man who downed Liverpool was indeed Pavkov, as the giant striker put in a superb showing, including a fine strike from long range to make it 2-0.
Pavkov, 24, with seven goals in 17 games this season, Pavkov has been in fine form, and he gave Liverpool a torrid time last night to enhance his own stock.
A big, physical striker from Serbia may just leave fans worrying about another Stefan Scepovic, but Pavkov’s display against Liverpool showed that, if Rodgers wasn’t interested at first, he should be now.
He would certainly bring a new dimension to the Celtic attack, and a new striker is certainly needed in January after selling Moussa Dembele in August and seeing Leigh Griffiths suffer injury woes – and amid links to Pavkov, last night’s performance should have been of great interest to Rodgers.
