Recent Jordan Pickford comments will be of interest to Pep Guardiola

Manchester City reportedly wanted to sign Jordan Pickford when the Everton goalkeeper was at Sunderland.

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford recently told The Liverpool Echo that he can spread passes like Manchester City custodian Ederson Moraes does.

Ederson has wowed Premier League followers this season with his passing ability from the goalkeeping position.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper has been a key figure behind City’s success this season, having joined Pep Guardiola’s side from Benfica in the summer of 2017.

Pickford recently told The Liverpool Echo: “I’ve got a few tools in my locker. I can play short if I want to play short, I can kick as far as I can kick it.

“With Arsenal we knew what they were like and what we were trying to get the gains in their half as deep as we could because we knew what a threat they were.

But if the gaffer comes to me and says we’re going to play out and he wants me to hit areas like Ederson is doing at Man City then I’m capable of doing that.”

Comments of interest to Pep Guardiola?

Pickford’s aforementioned comments will be of interest to City manager Guardiola, who reportedly wanted the Everton goalkeeper when he was at Sunderland.

Back in April 2017, The Manchester Evening News claimed that the Citizens were interested in signing the 23-year-old from Sunderland in the summer of 2017.

The England international eventually joined Everton for an transfer fee of £25 million, as announced on the Toffees’ official website.

Pickford’s comments suggest that he can play out from the back and can spread passes like Ederson does.

If Guardiola is in the market for another goalkeeper and wants strong competition for Ederson, then perhaps he should look at Pickford again given his aforementioned comments and his confidence in himself.
