Tottenham Hotspur are struggling without Toby Alderweireld.

Tottenham Hotspur’s recent form has seen them slip off the pace in the Premier League title race, offering Mauricio Pochettino a major qualm heading into this weekend’s clash with Watford.
Spurs lost 2-1 at Leicester City on Tuesday night, adding to recent disappointing results having drawn 1-1 with West Bromwich Albion and lost 2-1 at Arsenal.
With just one point from three games since the international break, Tottenham are struggling right now, and their poor defensive displays must be a concern for manager Pochettino.

Having conceded the first goal in each of their last four games in all competitions, Spurs aren’t quite at their stable best – and it’s no shock that it’s coming without Toby Alderweireld in the side.
The Belgian defender suffered a hamstring injury against Real Madrid earlier this month and is expected to be out until the New Year, with Spurs now praying for his early return.
Tottenham’s shaky displays without their defensive leader show just how tricky life without Alderweireld is, and that should be the wake-up call Spurs chairman Daniel Levy needs to tie him down to a new contract.

Alderweireld was quoted by The Sun in October as saying that there was no progress in talks over a new deal, with his current deal paying him £50,000-a-week according to The Telegraph; which is far from what the top defenders in Europe earn.
Spurs have seen how their defence can struggle with Alderweireld around, and the 28-year-old deserves to be given a bumper contract to make sure he is there to solidify the Tottenham back line for the long term.
