Aston Villa reportedly want to sign West Ham United’s Robert Snodgrass on loan.

According to The Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa are interested in signing Robert Snodgrass on a season-long loan deal from West Ham United in the summer transfer window, but the winger’s recent comments about his future suggest it may not be easy for the Championship club to lure him back to Villa Park.

Snodgrass spent the 2017-18 campaign on loan at Villa from West Ham and was quite successful for the Villans.

The former Leeds United and Norwich City winger made 41 starts and two substitute appearances in the Championship for Villa last season, scoring seven goals and providing 14 assists in the process, according to WhoScored.

There is no surprise that Villa want Snodgrass back on loan for the 2018-19 campaign, as reported by The Birmingham Mail, but the 31-year-old’s recent comments suggest that he wants to stay at West Ham and succeed at the London Stadium.

The Scotland international winger has failed to make an impact at West Ham since his move from Hull City in January 2017 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £10.2 million.

Snodgrass told The Birmingham Mail last week: “First season it was a bit stop-start. I started maybe seven or eight games or something like that. It’s not enough time to show what you can do.

“I showed the Aston Villa fans what I could in large spells of the season and obviously had a great relationship with them.

“So if I can do that with West Ham and get a chance hopefully I can build that relationship with them too.”

Snodgrass’s aforementioned comments suggest that he wants to be a success at West Ham, and a move back to Villa may not appeal to him.
