Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has told the club’s official website that he feels Willian has really raised his standards in training recently.
Willian was handed a start for Arsenal against Leicester City yesterday, in what was a controversial move by the manager.
It is fair to say that Willian’s move to Arsenal has not worked out as planned as yet.
The Brazilian is yet to show his best at the Emirates Stadium, and many supporters felt that Gabriel Martinelli should have been given minutes ahead of him.
However, Willian managed to provide two assists for the Gunners, as they beat Leicester 3-1.
The experienced winger also helped Arsenal turn things around against Benfica on Thursday.
And Arteta feels that Willian has started to look the part in training recently.
“He was really good,” Arteta said. “We’ve seen that in training the last few weeks.
“He’s rebuilding himself and he’s not accepted the situation. I think he was the player who changed the game against Benfica in the last few moments when he came on, and today I think he was terrific.”
Arteta’s words suggest that Willian could well receive even more game time over the coming weeks.
Arsenal have a busy fixture schedule to contend with in the coming weeks, with their next game coming against Burnley at Turf Moor.
