According to Own Goal Nigeria, West Ham United had emerged as the frontrunners to sign the 20-year-old forward, one of the most in-demand players in all of Europe following an astounding, 24-goal campaign with KAS Eupen.
However, the report adds that The Hammers have had a £7 million bid turned down – because the Belgian side believe that Onyekuru deserves to move to a more prestigious club.

And that will certainly not go down well with one of England’s proudest and most historic football teams.

However, this may only serve to annoy Celtic supporters, five months after the club had a £1 million bid rejected for Nigeria’s next big thing, as reported by the Daily Record.

After all, the Glasgow giants’ fanbase is on a par with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool. Furthermore, they have now won sixth straight league titles while sealing a first domestic treble since 2001 last season. It’s fair to say Celtic are one of the most historic, illustrious clubs on the continent with a European Cup to their name to boot.
However, as reported by the Daily Record, Onyekuru poured cold water on a potential move to Parkhead after admitting that the Premier League was his dream destination.
Yet, if both club and player are on the lookout for a ‘prestigious’ destination, there are few better options than Celtic.
