In-form attacker Jamie Murphy believes he is benefiting from swapping Rangers for Scottish Premiership rivals Hibernian during the summer, speaking to the Herald.

The former Brighton and Hove Albion winger could be forgiven for feeling as green as his Hibs shirt. He can only watch as Steven Gerrard’s Rangers cruise at the top of the table.

The Glasgow giants sent Murphy on loan to Easter Road in August and the 31-year-old has no choice but to watch from afar as Rangers look to bring a stunning end to Celtic’s ‘ten-in-a-row’ dream.

But the twice-capped Scotland international is only focused on getting his own career back on track after falling down the pecking order during an injury-hit spell at Ibrox.

Murphy is certainly doing just that, producing a goal and an assist during the recent 2-2 draw with Celtic.

Hibs boss Jack Ross believes the quicksilver forward is getting “better and better”, with Murphy reaping the benefits of playing regular first-team football in Edinburgh.

“What’s been the difference for me lately? Just playing games,” he said. “I’ve been wanting a regular run of games for a while now because I know I can score goals and be involved in goals – if I get that run.

“I’m just thankful the manager has brought me here and given me this opportunity. He plays in an attacking style and we’ve got some really good players here – Martin Boyle on the right, the two boys up front – and good creativity in midfield.

“So you always feel like there’s an opportunity coming. I’m encouraged to get forward, which is probably where I’m best. But you always try to do your bit for the team. And I thought the back four were brilliant against a Dundee side who made it difficult for us.”

Murphy also scored seven goals in ten games on loan at Burton Albion in the second half of last season.

His impressive displays appear to have lifted his career in a positive new direction after a Rangers move which offered so much hope yet fell short of expectation after poor luck with injury.
