The report has claimed that Rangers are the favourites for the 28-year-old, who has been told by Middlesbrough that he can leave this summer.
The former Watford and Peterborough United striker is reportedly close to agreeing terms with Rangers and will accept a pay-cut to complete the move to Ibrox.
Assombalonga did well during his time at Forest, but the 28-year-old has had a mixed time at Middlesbrough.
According to WhoScored, the DR Congo international has made 19 starts and 12 substitute appearances in the Championship this season, scoring five goals in the process.
The striker scored 11 goals and gave two assists in 27 league starts last season, while in 2018-19, he scored 14 goals and in 2017-18 he found the back of the net 15 times in the league, according to WhoScored.
