Micky van de Ven is one of the best young players in the Premier League, and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has been impressed with the Tottenham Hotspur defender.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has said on Sky Sports Premier League (7:10 pm, October 27, 2023) that Tottenham Hotspur and Netherlands international central defender Micky van de Ven is “a lot better than you think”.

The Sky Sports pundit has noted the attributes of Van de Ven and has said he has changed for the better since the first time he saw him play.

Neville made the comments about Van de Ven in the build-up to the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur at Selhurst Park in London on Friday evening.

The pundit said: “Van de Ven when I watched him in that game, and I saw him live against (Manchester United), and I think we commented after.

“He looked really stiff, he looked quite robotic a little bit on the turn.

“But then you watch him since, and you think, he is quick, he is a really good defender, he is a lot better than you think.”

My View: Micky van de Ven is a Tottenham Hotspur gem

In my opinion, Tottenham Hotspur have found a gem in Micky van de Ven.

Yes, Spurs had to spend £34.5 million in transfer fees to sign the 22-year-old in the summer transfer window, but it is proving to be money well spent.

Van de Ven has established himself at the heart of the Tottenham defence alongside Cristian Romero.

The Netherlands international is playing regularly, and you can see that he is growing in confidence and in stature.

You wonder what Liverpool are making of Van de Ven at Tottenham now.

Liverpool reportedly wanted to sign the 22-year-old in the summer transfer window, but the defender chose Spurs because the Reds could not guarantee him that he would start.

Tottenham are at the top of the Premier League table now.

Maybe, just maybe, Spurs could really challenge for the Premier League title this season.

After all, Arsenal pushed Manchester City hard last season, so why can’t Tottenham?

I believe that Tottenham should believe in themselves.
