Peter Schmeichel has claimed that Richarlison looks ‘out of sorts’ at Tottenham Hotspur following his Everton exit.

The legendary Premier League goalkeeper claimed that, at Everton, he felt that Richarlison was a ‘really special’ player.

But since his record transfer to Tottenham, he has only managed one Premier League goal and Schmeichel thinks that he needs an ‘arm around his shoulder’, as he told Premier League Productions (26/08/23 at 2:50 pm).

The 26-year-old isn’t shy to showcase his stuff out on the field and he is someone that can annoy the opposition fans with his antics.

Sometimes that helps Richarlison in his game because it gets him going and allows him to perform at his best.

But, since moving to Spurs, that hasn’t been the case for the Brazil international, with Schmeichel sharing his thoughts on the forward’s current situation.

“Richarlison looks out of sorts,” said Schmeichel. “That’s not good (on his one PL goal for Spurs) if you are number nine.

“In all fairness to him, it’s three games without Harry Kane. He has now taken that position. Playing with someone like Harry Kane, he will be in those positions. He has done it year after year after year, so he has had to find alternative places to be in.

“I will give him time. I really thought when he was at Everton that there was something really special about him.

“But there is a reason why he starts at the World Cup for Brazil, so it’s not like he is a bad player. I think he needs to have a little arm around his shoulder. Talk with himself as well. Some of his behaviours in the game, the frustrations, he gets a yellow card that he doesn’t need to get, then off that, the manager feels he needs to substitute him.”

Everton could do with Richarlison now

Even though Richarlison is struggling for goals at Spurs, when he was at Goodison Park, and playing for a struggling team, he managed to hit double figures.

But it needs to be noted that Spurs struggled last season also, although, not as bad as Everton, even though they were a defensive-minded team.

The issue now will be that he is playing for a more attack-minded side, yet, he still can’t find the back of the net, but that’s where he probably needs time and for Ange Postecoglou to work his magic.
