Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon has told The Mirror what Gareth Bale said to him about a move to Spurs when they were at Real Madrid.
Spurs signed Reguilon on a permanent contract from Spanish and European giants Madrid in the summer of 2020, while winger Bale returned to the North London outfit on a loan deal.
The 24-year-old Spain international left-back, who actually spent the 2019-20 season on loan at Sevilla, has shared the conversation he had with Bale at Tottenham while they were at Madrid.
Reguilon told The Mirror: “I was talking with him when we were with Madrid and said, ‘Gareth, maybe I go to Tottenham’. And he said, ‘Really? Me too! No way!’ In the end it was amazing.
“In the summer, I had a big decision and with all the clubs on the table, I chose Tottenham. Because of their proposal, the team, the league, the club, the city… there are so many factors that said ‘yes’.
“Because of Gareth also and the personnel at the club, with Daniel Levy and with Jose Mourinho and everything – it was very important.”

Good decision
Reguilon was not in the first-team picture at Madrid last season, and it made sense for him to move to Tottenham in the summer of 2020.
The 24-year-old left-back has established himself as an important player in Jose Mourinho’s team.
According to WhoScored, the Spain international has made 14 starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League, and has played thrice in the Europa League for Spurs so far this season.
As for Bale, the Wales international winger struggled to play regularly under Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane last season.
The 31-year-old has not had the best of times at Spurs, but the winger is starting to score goals and get playing time.
