Arsenal’s reported pursuit of Ben White has been threatened in recent days.
It was reported this week that Chelsea were rivalling the Gunners in trying to sign the in-demand Brighton & Hove Albion defender.
The Athletic reported in June that Arsenal had agreed personal terms with the player, who would command a £50 million transfer fee.
But Fabrizio Romano has some positive news for the North Londoners on this front.
According to the Italian journalist, there is nothing credible by way of Chelsea hijacking Arsenal’s move for the former Leeds loanee, who has two England caps under his belt.
He told his Here We Go podcast: “There is nothing with Chelsea because he is really, really close to joining Arsenal. He has an agreement on personal terms already with Arsenal & he wants to join #Arsenal. Its not done yet, but they are getting closer.”
Boost
This is definitely a big boost for Mikel Arteta and Edu.
White is clearly a player who Arsenal badly want, evident by the fact that they’re willing to spend £50 million on bringing him to the Emirates Stadium.
But Chelsea have just won the Champions League and there’s no doubt that Stamford Bridge is a much more attractive proposition to a lot of players right now, with Arteta’s side having no European football of any kind next season.
However, if the Blues aren’t in the equation then Arsenal should, in theory, rest easy.
