Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has raved about Gabriel on the club’s official website.

Arteta has been impressed by the impact that the 22-year-old has made on Arsenal since he moved to the Gunners and seems to have been surprised by how quickly the young central defender has adapted to English football.

The Spaniard told Arsenal’s official website about Gabriel: “We saw qualities in him that is exactly what we wanted. But then you move him from France to here at an early age, without talking the language, to adapt to a new way of playing as well… [but] he has done it really quickly and is showing a great mentality as well.

“We threw him in against Fulham [on the opening day] after three or four training sessions and you could see the performance he had there.”

Arsenal spell so far

Gabriel joined Arsenal from French club Lille in the summer transfer window.

According to WhoScored, the 22-year-old central defender has scored one goal in four Premier League matches for the Gunners.

The youngster has also played once in the Europa League and once in the EFL Cup for the North London club, according to WhoScored.

Developing and progressing

Gabriel is only 22 years of age and is far from the finished article, but the Brazilian has done well at Arsenal so far.

The youngster has looked comfortable on the ball and is calm and composed when under pressure.

Working with Arteta will only help Gabriel get better, and perhaps in the coming weeks and months, he will become a very important player for the team.
