Speaking on the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Gabriel Martinelli has claimed that Nuno Tavares is now Arsenal’s fastest player after the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Arsenal are blessed with a number of speedsters. The likes of Bukayo Saka, Eddie Nketiah and even Martinelli himself are absolutely rapid, but according to the Brazilian, Nuno Tavares is now the fastest player in the entire squad.

The left-back can cause all sorts of problems in the attacking third with his pace, and according to Martinelli, there’s nobody in the squad who can rival him for speed these days.

What’s been said?

Martinelli stated that Tavares was the quickest player in the squad.

“It’s not me, I think it’s Nuno Tavares, Nuno is really quick,” Martinelli said.

However, according to the Brazilian, this hasn’t always been the case. Later in the video, Martinelli picked Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the quickest Arsenal player he’d ever worked with.

“I think Aubameyang, I think he is quicker than Nuno,” Martinelli said.

Frightening

If Nuno Tavares can refine the technical side of his game, Arsenal will have a truly frightening left side.

Martinelli is incredibly direct and possesses ridiculous speed, while, as we all know, Tavares is one of the fastest players at Arsenal.

Sadly though, Tavares’ technical ability does let him down in the final third. Far too often his crosses end up in row Z, while many of his shots are scuffed well wide of goal.

Luckily, at the age of 22, the Portuguese defender has lots of room to improve, and if Mikel Arteta can get him playing at a better technical level, he could be a star.
