Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told the club’s official website that midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be ready for action soon.
Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered a knee injury in the pre-season training camp in Austria and has not played a single minute of competitive football for the defending Premier League champions so far.
Klopp has given an update on the situation of the 27-year-old England international midfielder, stating that he could return to action soon.
The Liverpool boss has also said that right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and midfielder Naby Keita are training with the team and could feature in the Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend.
Klopp told the club’s official website about Oxlade-Chamberlain: “Ox looks really promising, he is doing a lot of stuff. He is warming up with the team now, some ball work, a lot of stuff, but we will develop that now over the next few days. Then we will see from which moment on it makes sense to throw him in. He is not too far away.”
The Liverpool boss added: “Trent and Naby will do the first steps in team training today; whatever we can do with that depends on how it looks. There are some niggles after the game against Ajax and we have to see how they respond. So far, they didn’t do a lot apart from treatment and stuff like this. We have to see how that develops [but] I don’t know in the moment.
“There is a chance Naby and Trent can be in the squad, I would say. If they can play, I don’t know. If they are in the squad then they can play, but if they can start or play 90 minutes, I don’t know. I think there’s a chance they are in the squad, yes. Apart from Naby and Trent, nobody is coming back, no.”
Encouraging for Liverpool
Although Liverpool are doing well without Oxlade-Chamberlain, a player of the midfielder’s quality and calibre will only make the Reds better.
The former Arsenal star is a very dynamic footballer who will help the Reds’ midfield become more mobile and will add energy to the team.
Of course, one should not expect the Englishman to make an immediate impact after he recovers, but he could prove to be a valuable player for Liverpool in the business end of the season.
