Jamie Carragher has singled out Liverpool’s Joe Gomez for a bit of criticism.
The Reds centre-back was mainly at fault for the opening goal that Jurgen Klopp’s side conceded in Saturday’s visit of West Ham United to Anfield.
Pablo Fornals volleyed the visitors into a shock lead but the goal stemmed from a poor defensive header from the Liverpool star.
And Carragher has described it as ‘really poor’ from the 23-year-old.
He said live during commentary on Sky Sports: “It all started with Bowen picking up the ball in space and nobody going with him.
“It was a really poor header by Joe Gomez. Really poor. And it wasn’t the best strike you’ve ever seen.”
It was certainly an error from the former Charlton Athletic star.
And really, the Liverpool boss needs Gomez to be the one leading by example, even if his centre-back partner Nathaniel Phillips is a few months older than him.
The German was forced to pair him with Phillips – who was exceptional – due to an unprecedented injury crisis in regards to central-defensive options.
And given that Gomez has a wealth of Premier League and Champions League experience at this point, he really should’ve been the one who looked the steadier of both players.
