Alan Shearer has criticised Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow on Match of the Day on BBC One (11:23pm, November 20, 2021) for his performance against Brentford.

Newcastle goalkeeper Darlow conceded as many as three goals at St. James’ Park.

The Premier League match ended in a 3-3 draw.

Shearer said while analysing the first goal: “Darlow there, it’s a basic error. He had a really poor game.”

Disappointing performance from Karl Darlow

Darlow is actually a good goalkeeper who has done well when called upon.

The 31-year-old has made eight appearances in the Premier League so far this season.

However, against Brentford yesterday, the Englishman was disappointing.

Darlow should have done much better for Ivan Toney’s goal.

The former Nottingham Forest man also looked shaky on other occasions.

In fairness to Darlow, Newcastle were defensively poor against Brentford.

Although the St. James’ Park faithful would have enjoyed watching the team score three goals, they will be disappointed that Eddie Howe’s side conceded three.

We can see why Newcastle are struggling and are in danger of getting relegated.

If the Magpies do not stop conceding goals and get defensively better, then staying in the Premier League will be really tough for them.
