Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter after spotting where Stuart Atwell was positioned in the 58th minute against Manchester City.

What’s the story?

Well, after Riyad Mahrez scored a penalty in the 57th minute, Arsenal nearly restored their lead just seconds later in the 58th minute.

Nathan Ake cleared the ball off the line, only to poke it towards Gabriel Martinelli who had an open goal at his mercy.

However, the Brazilian incredibly missed the target.

It was a shocking miss, although when watching the footage again, we can see Attwell run across Martinelli as the ball bobbles towards him.

Attwell’s movement forces the 20-year-old to take the shot on his weaker left foot, as he cannot adjust his body to use his right foot.

Of course, it’s still an open goal, although Martinelli would’ve had a better chance of scoring had he been able to use his stronger side.

Understandably, the Arsenal supporters were furious with Attwell.

Arsenal can’t let Manchester City defeat affect them

Right now, the mood in the Arsenal camp will be low – very low.

However, the players must understand how well they played against what is arguably the best side in Europe.

The Gunners took the game to the Citizens, and on another day, they could’ve easily taken all three points had some decisions gone their way.

For an extremely youthful side to cause Pep Guardiola’s men this many issues speaks volumes, and it’s scary to think about how good the likes of Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe can become.

Now, Mikel Arteta must ensure his players keep their heads up – they’ll easily achieve a place in the top four if they play like that every week.

For now, let’s see what the Arsenal fans on Twitter have been saying about Attwell’s horrendous positioning…
