‘Somehow’: Some Leeds fans react to rumour about Ollie Watkins Euro 2020 chances

Leeds United fans have reacted on Twitter to the mixed rumours emerging about Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins.

Gareth Southgate is expected to name his 26-man England squad today, with Villa’s club-record signing hoping to get picked, alongside Leeds’, Kalvin Phillips.

Judging by form and their recent involvement with England, both Phillips and Grealish should make that final 26-man cut, but the same cannot be said for Watkins, or even his Villa teammate, Tyrone Mings.

Planet Football suggested that Watkins will be axed by Southgate this afternoon.

But with Mason Greenwood pulling out of the squad because of an injury this morning, it has probably changed matters for the versatile Villa attacker.

Some Leeds fans have suggested that Watkins shouldn’t be picked in Southgate’s final plans, with others still seemingly annoyed that Patrick Bamford wasn’t picked.

Either way, it’s not long before a few hearts are broken and six players, and Greenwood, are heading back home rather than to the Euros.

From Watkins perspective, whatever call is made, he has come a long way during these past 12 months, as has Bamford.

Last summer, Watkins had just lost a play-off final with Brentford against Fulham, and now he’s fretting about representing his country on one of the biggest stages of them all.
