AC Milan defender Diego Laxalt could be on his way to Dynamo Moscow after Celtic opted against triggering the purchase option in his contract, as reported by Soccer.
Following an impressive start to life in Glasgow – including a ferocious, record-breaking performance against Lille in the Europa League group stages – it felt like only a matter of time before Laxalt was putting pen to paper on a full-time contract.
But, as those eye-catching performances started to become more and more infrequent, the Uruguayan suddenly found himself in limbo.
Laxalt may have been one of Celtic’s better signings during the disastrous 2020 transfer window but the former Genoa scrapper still didn’t do enough to justify a £9 million price tag that would have made him the Hoops’ joint-record signing.
No Celtic or Milan stay for Laxalt as Russia looms large
The 28-year-old returned to Milan at the end of the season.
But, as the human bullet train that’s Theo Hernandez established himself at the San Siro as one of Europe’s best left-backs, it always felt unlikely Laxalt would be handed a fresh start at his parent club too.
Now, it appears a move to Russia could be on the cards.
“Dynamo (Moscow) are really interested in Diego. Moreover, the club has already contacted Milan regarding his transfer,” his agent, Ariel Krasouski, explains.
If you thought Celtic endured a season to forget in 2020/21, spare a thought for Dynamo Moscow.
Laxalt will be joining a side that finished all the way down in seventh place, missing out on European football as a result.
