Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, former England goalkeeper David Seaman has been waxing-lyrical about Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips.
Phillips has been the talk of the town in recent days after his incredible performance against Croatia at Euro 2020, and Seaman was seemingly very impressed by him.

Seaman was speaking with Tony Adams about Phillips’ performance last Sunday, and Seaman didn’t have enough good things to say about him.
“He did didn’t he. I just said to the guys, I call him the Yorkshire Pirlo. I’ve obviously been watching him with Leeds and he’s just getting better and better, and the way he breaks up the play as well with his sneaky fouls. He never gets a yellow card, he always likes stopping the game and stopping the attacks and I was really impressed by him,” Seaman said.
Better and better
Whether you rate Kalvin Phillips as one of England’s best or not, one thing that can’t be denied is how much he has improved in recent years.
Before Marcelo Bielsa arrived at Leeds, Phillips was a middle of the road Championship midfielder, but after three seasons of playing under the Argentine, the Leeds ace is now bossing games at international level.
Phillips is the prime example of what can be achieved in this game with the right amount of hard-work, dedication and good coaching, and it’s great to see a player like this now starring for England.
Seaman is absolutely right about Phillips’ improvement.
