Speculation is mounting that Tottenham Hotspur want to sign a former Manchester United player.

According to Alan Nixon, Spurs are interested in bringing Daniel James to North London during the summer transfer window.

James joined Leeds United for £25 million last summer after struggling to impress at Manchester United.

During his two-year career at Old Trafford, the Wales international managed 50 appearances and scored only six goals [Wales Online].

And one Red Devils legend who was pleased by his departure was Gary Neville.

Last year, Neville said as quoted by HITC Sport: “I am really happy that he has left Manchester United and gone to Leeds.

“I think he would have been a bit-part player at Manchester United. They have got so many forwards, so many attacking players. He comes here, he is perfect for Leeds United.”

Neville said he was perfect for Leeds, but is he?

Well, that’s debateable.

He has certainly had his moments in a Whites’ shirt but, unfortunately, he isn’t that much more impactful in West Yorkshire as he was in Manchester and that’s what Antonio Conte will demand at Tottenham, impact.

Since joining Leeds, the 24-year-old has four goals in 37 outings.

There’s a touch of the Adama Traores about James in the sense that despite being a devastating attacking player in terms of speed, there’s forever going to be question marks over his end product.

Having said that, Conte is one of the finest man-managers in the game, someone who can transform footballers.

And if the Spurs boss feels that he can take James to a new level then, well, that’s rather exciting, despite Neville’s comments.
