Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has praised Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson on Sky Sports Premier League (8:01pm, February 18, 2023) for his performance for Jurgen Klopp’s side at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Howe was impressed by the two early saves that Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson made against his Newcastle team in the first half.

The Reds got the better of the Magpies 2-0.

Nick Pope was sent off for Newcastle in the first half.

Newcastle still created chances in the second period and could have scored had it not been for Brazil international goalkeeper Alisson.

Howe said: “A lot happened in the game. I think, a good start from us and we had the first chance in the game, but Alisson made a couple of really good saves.”

Impressive performance

In our view, Alisson was the best Liverpool player against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Saturday evening.

The Brazilian was brilliant between the posts and made a number of saves.

Had Alisson not been in inspired form, then Liverpool could have drawn or even lost the match.

Liverpool are starting to get back to their best, but defensively they need to improve.

Yes, Jurgen Klopp’s side did not concede against Newcastle, but that was due to Alisson’s heroics and not because of the defenders.
