Ray Parlour has lauded Aaron Ramsdale’s character and claimed that Arsenal have got a ‘really good deal’ with the player, as he told talkSPORT (27/10/21 at 6:10 am).

The former Gunners midfielder stated that Ramsdale has been ‘excellent’ for Mikel Arteta and he lauded him for ‘having a go’ at people

Arsenal’s new boy hasn’t just been keeping clean sheets for fun since Arteta handed him the number one goalkeeping gloves, but also an infectious character.

That has been proven by his vocal nature in goal and his all-action celebrations when Arsenal score, whether he is or isn’t playing.

And Parlour likes what he sees from the England international, as he compared him to an Arsenal legend.

“It’s a test this weekend against Leicester,” said Parlour. “That’s where they have to show their metal a little bit.

“Ramsdale has been excellent. He really has. Since he has got his opportunity. Behind-the-scenes, they lost Martinez to Villa, who had a really good end to the season and got good money for him.

“Then you are thinking ‘wait a minute, you have spent £30 million on Ramsdale, is that money well spent?’. It looks like it has been a really good deal for Arsenal in recent weeks because he has played really well.

“What I like about it as well is when they conceded against Villa, you should have seen him, coming out of his box and having a go at people. That’s what you want from your keeper. Jens Lehmann was like that. Demanding.”

Arsenal are starting to show some form of consistency recently, but it’s not enough, in regards to where they want to get to in the long-term.

But this past week, has been a strong one for Arteta and one that could prove to be defining in them moving forward during these coming months.

Securing a late point against Crystal Palace, beating Villa in a comfortable fashion, then knocking Leeds out of the League Cup – all within the space of eight days and all on home soil.

That’s a sign, albeit a small sample, that this young and vibrant Arsenal side is on the right track, but one defeat, one bump in the road can always change that.
