Liverpool will have to be aware of Danny Ings on Monday night.
Southampton host Jurgen Klopp’s troops and 35 Premier League goals since being sold by the Reds boss in 2018 – including 22 last term – suggests that Ings could be a major threat to his old side.
To make matters worse, Liverpool will have a makeshift central-defensive partnership of midfielder Fabinho and inexperienced Nat Phillips.
But Phillips has told the club’s official website that he’s well aware of the threat posed by the Saints marksman, sold by the Anfield side for £20 million.
He said: “He has really found his feet when he’s been playing games and he has managed to get some momentum himself and get on the scoresheet quite often. So we’ll have to be aware of him.”
It seems bizarre but Southampton are having a very good season and victory over Liverpool would put them only four points behind the Premier League leaders.
Not that the South-Coast club are challenging for the Premier League title or anything, but at the moment, almost halfway through the season, Ralph Hassenhuttl’s charges are exceding expectations and a anywhere inside the top six would represent enormous progress.
