Arsenal are in the market for a new striker this summer, and, understandably, the Gunners have been linked with a number of different options.
One man they have been strongly linked with is Armando Broja, and at one point, it looked as though he would be a fantastic addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Indeed, the Albanian burst onto the scene with Southampton. His pace was tormenting defences and he looked like a real superstar in the making.
However, since these links to Arsenal emerged in February, Broja’s form has fallen off of a cliff.
Indeed, whether he’s allowed these transfer rumours to get to his head or he’s just coming into a brown patch of form, Broja hasn’t looked as promising lately.
The forward has now gone 12 Premier League games without a goal, and what’s more concerning is that he’s had just 18 shots in that period – with five of those coming in a single game against Brentford over the weekend.
The striker is still a ‘really exciting’ player, but Arsenal need to sign a striker who has proven he can deliver on a consistent basis, not somebody as hit and miss as Broja.
Of course, the fact that he’s not been scoring lately doesn’t change the fact that he’s got a lot of physical attributes that every striker would love to have. He’s 6 ft 4 and absolutely rapid, so if Mikel Arteta could coach him correctly, he could still be a gem.
However, heading into this summer, Arsenal can’t really afford to gamble on a number nine, they need someone who guarantees goals, and as we’ve seen in recent months, Broja just isn’t that player yet.
