Callum McGregor feels Ange Postecoglou and Tom Rogic offer Celtic an ‘exciting’ route to expand in Australia the Parkhead outfit cannot pass up, via quotes by the Glasgow Times.
The Bhoys are looking to bolster their commercial appeal in the country later this year with the first Old Firm derby held outside of Scotland. But the friendly tournament has received widespread backlash from supporters of both sides, with Hoops fans protesting the fixture.
Yet McGregor supports the idea behind the planned Sydney Super Cup, as Celtic would be foolish to waste the golden opportunity to cash in on Rogic and Postecoglou’s popularity in their home county. So, he has no qualms heading down under to play Rangers this winter.

McGregor feels Rogic, Postecoglou offer Celtic ‘really exciting’ route to grow
A World Cup appearance in Qatar also remains a possibility for McGregor, if Scotland win their postponed play-off semi-final with Ukraine and beat the winners of Wales vs Austria.
The chance to represent the Tartan Army in their first World Cup since 1998 excites the Hoops skipper, who has proven to be a mainstay on the international stage since 2017. But McGregor would be happy to turn out for Celtic at the Sydney Super Cup if not in Qatar.
“Hopefully, with the games that come around we are successful and reach the World Cup,” he said. “That would be an amazing achievement as a young Scottish player to go and play and represent your country at a World Cup. There wouldn’t be a better feeling than that.

“For the club, it’s also a great opportunity for us to maximise our commercial appeal with the manager and guys like Tom, who have a huge fanbase in Australia.
“So, that’s a really exciting prospect for the club, as well. Wherever I am come next November and December then I’ll be looking forward to either one.”
Rogic has helped to showcase Celtic to an Australian audience since his £400k switch from Central Coast Mariners in 2013. He had never left his homeland before moving to Glasgow, where he is again cutting an important figure following the arrival of Postecoglou last year.
Postecoglou, likewise, is helping to grow Celtic’s appeal down under since the Bhoys hired the former Australia national team boss. But the Parkhead leadership must weigh up the potential gains on offer from the Sydney Super Cup versus the opposition from their fans.
