Glenn Hoddle has spoken highly of Tottenham Hotspur duo Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr for their dominance against Manchester United.

In what was Ange Postecoglou’s first home in charge, he marked it with a win as Tottenham brushed aside Manchester United 2-0, with Hoddle claiming that, in the second half, Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr ‘took over’ the game.

Even the most ardent of Tottenham fans would agree that they were lucky not to fall behind early on, but they got through that storm to ‘really dominate’ after the break, as Hoddle claimed, whilst talking to Premier League Productions (19/08/23 at 7:30 pm).

Whilst Sarr didn’t start Spurs’ opening day draw at Brentford, this was Bissouma’s second start under the club’s new manager, and once again, he stood tall.

After signing for the club last summer from Brighton, Bissouma struggled to get his engine going in Antonio Conte’s system.

But during these early stages, he could argue that he has been his side’s best player, with Hoddle giving him and Sarr his flowers.

“The midfield for Tottenham, that’s where I felt Spurs, especially in the second half, really dominated,” said Hoddle.

“Sarr and Bissouma, particularly, that’s where they took over the game. They looked a little bit tired did Man United, to me, in that central midfield position.

“That’s where I feel Spurs have ended up winning the game. They dominated and they had runners off them, then they caused Man United a lot of problems in the second half.”

Tottenham look dynamic

This is what Spurs have been crying out for ever since Mauricio Pochettino headed for the exit door because their previous three defensive managers have put the fans to sleep.

Yes, they are conceding a lot of chances, but from an attacking sense, this is the best they have played since Pochettino.

Of course, there is still a long way to go, but so far, the signs look pretty positive.
