Tim Sherwood has slammed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for his ‘really disrespectful’ comments towards Newcastle United and their spending under Eddie Howe.
In recent weeks, Klopp has stated that there are three clubs in the world – Manchester City, PSG and Newcastle – who can ‘do what they want’ from a financial perspective and Liverpool can’t do anything about it, as he told his press conference earlier this month.
Newcastle were taken over by a Saudi-led group last year that has made them the richest club, not just in England, but in the footballing world.
Since their arrival, Eddie Howe’s side have splashed the cash over two transfer windows, including breaking their club transfer record on Alexander Isak in the summer.
Whilst that has played a part in Newcastle currently sitting in the Champions League places, so have the likes of Miguel Almiron and Joelinton – players purchased during the infamous Mike Ashley era.
Sherwood felt that someone like Eddie Howe has been disrespected for the coaching he and his staff have done on the training field and someone like Klopp should lay off, as he told Premier League Productions (24/10/22 at 2:05 pm).
“I think it’s really disrespectful some comments that have been made over the last few weeks about Eddie Howe and spending,” said Sherwood.
“I think he already improved some of the players they already had. Joelinton, for instance, is the biggest example. Someone who is a failed number nine with previous managers and he is now playing as a number eight and running the game – It’s a little bit disrespectful to suggest that it’s just about the money. They have spent nothing. Hold your breath and wait for what’s going to come. He’s earned the right.
“They needed to (spend) because they were struggling relegaton. I think for Jurgen Klopp to come out and start criticising him, I think it’s rich – that’s what he meant, we aren’t spending money and other teams are.
“So, I just suggest he gets on with his own team because he has a lot of problems at Liverpool.”

But it has become such that someone like Almiron is becoming more important than Allan Saint-Maximin.
The French winger’s absence isn’t even felt right now because Almiron is too busy shutting Jack Grealish up again by scoring what turned out to be the winning goal against Tottenham on Sunday.
Fabian Schar, Joe Willock and Jonjo Shelvey are other notable names to have improved under Howe, which is a credit to the Englishman once again.
