Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after hearing that Jay Rich-Baghuelou had joined Accrington Stanley.

What’s the story?

Well, the Crystal Palace fans are shocked by this news.

The 22-year-old joined the Eagles in January 2020, and made 20 appearances for the Under-23 side as they earned promotion last season.

Some fans – as you can see below – had high hopes for the towering centre-back, who has looked a formidable presence in the Under-23 setup.

Rich-Baghuelou often drove forward with the ball – like Marc Guéhi – and his composure in possession seemed to suit Patrick Vieira’s style of play.

Nevertheless, the 1-cap Australia international has now been sold, much to the surprise of the Crystal Palace supporters.

In truth, a move to a League One side represents a fantastic opportunity for Rich-Baghuelou as he looks to put his stamp on senior football.

Interestingly, the Eagles also let another promising centre-back leave SE25 this month, albeit on a loan deal rather than a permanent exit.

The south Londoners decided to send Jake O’Brien to Swindon, where he will spend the rest of the season.

In our view, it’s telling that Crystal Palace permanently offloaded Rich-Baghuelou, but have kept O’Brien on the books.

The Irishman is a fantastic prospect, who looks like he could become part of Vieira’s first-team soon.

On his debut for Swindon, the 20-year-old grabbed an assist in the 3-2 defeat to Mansfield with an exquisite long-range pass across the pitch.

It was one Joachim Andersen would’ve been proud of.

That technical ability, along with his broad frame and height, means O’Brien has all the tools needed to reach the Premier League.

Only time will tell if he makes it.

For now, let’s see what the Crystal Palace fans on Twitter have been saying about Rich-Baghuelou…
