Crysencio Summerville has been speaking to Algemeen Dagblad, after he finally managed to break into the first-team at Leeds.
What’s the story?
Well, by the sounds of it, the £1.3m Leeds man is finding this level of football quite tough, after joining from Feyenoord in September 2020.
As quoted by Voetbal Primeur, Summerville said: “In the cup, I was in the starting line-up against Fulham, and I came on against Arsenal. And believe me, that level is no joke.
“Afterwards you’re just panting in the dressing room. The tempo is so high and it’s really difficult to play as a substitute.”
It sounds like the 19-year-old needs to work on his fitness!
So far this season, Summerville has been trusted by Marcelo Bielsa, making four Premier League appearances.
The teenager has also played two Carabao Cup games.
Summerville is yet to score or assist a goal in the first-team, although he has looked bright as he shows why Bielsa has put so much faith in him.
Last season, the Dutchman scored six goals and provided six assists in just 12 Premier League 2 appearances.
It’s only a matter of time until we see that form in the first-team.
Leeds shouldn’t be concerned by Crysencio Summerville comments
Clearly, the wonderkid is finding it tiring to play first-team football, and as aforesaid, that has led to him struggling to record goal involvements.
In that respect, should Leeds be worried?
After all, the teenager has been at Elland Road for over a year now, and has also partaken in many Murderball sessions at Thorp Arch.
Having said that, there is no need to worry.
Summerville is still just 19, and it will take a while for his body to get up to speed with the demands of first-team football in England’s top-flight.
In Bielsa’s intense system, those demands are arguably more rigorous.
With more Murderball sessions under his belt, and more minutes in the Premier League, we’re sure Summerville will be panting in the dressing room no more.
