Darren Bent has suggested on talkSPORT (5:27pm, January 16, 2023) that sacking Antonio Conte and replacing him with Mauricio Pochettino would not be a forward move for Tottenham Hotspur.

Bent made the comments in response to a Tottenham fan saying on talkSPORT that he wants Spurs to sack Conte now and bring in former head coach Pochettino.

Former Tottenham striker Bent has said that it would be a “bizarre” decision.

Bent said: “Is it really a step forward, though? Getting rid of Conte and bringing Poch back? Is that a step forward? It’s a bizarre one that, isn’t it? If you look at the CVs as well, Conte’s CV is (better).”

Should Tottenham sack Antonio Conte and bring back Mauricio Pochettino?

In our view, Tottenham Hotspur should not sack Antonio Conte now and bring back Mauricio Pochettino.

Yes, Spurs lost the North London derby against Arsenal at the weekend, but they are still very much in the race for the Premier League top four this season.

If Tottenham want to make a managerial change, then they should do it in the summer of 2023, not now.

Pochettino was very successful during his time at Tottenham and led the North London club to a UEFA Champions League final.

The Argentine also made Tottenham regulars in the Premier League top four.

So, in our view, Pochettino going back to Spurs in the summer of 2023 would not be a bad idea.

We have seen with Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid and (to some extent) Jose Mourinho at Chelsea that managers going back to their old clubs can be successful moves.
