Alan Shearer has praised the quality Jorginho and Leandro Trossard bring to the table for Arsenal and how they were two ‘really clever’ signings from Mikel Arteta.

The duo came in during the January transfer window, with Trossard arriving from Brighton to bring an added bite to Arsenal’s attacking line, whereas Jorginho swapped tenth-placed Chelsea for a Premier League title battle.

After just over a month in north London, they have already made their marks, with Jorginho helping Arsenal to a valuable late winner over Aston Villa recently, whereas Trossard has scored one and assisted two.

That has boosted Arsenal’s bench and their title chances, which is why Arteta was so desperate to bring those faces in during the winter transfer window.

As of this moment, it’s proving to be a very good call, but come May, it might prove to be a masterstroke, that’s if the Premier League title heads to the Emirates.

Nonetheless, Shearer lauded both signings, as he shared what he likes about Trossard, as he told Premier League Productions (04/03/23 at 11:55 am).

“I think it (Trossard) was a really clever signing,” said Shearer. “Him and Jorginho. Jorginho because of his experience and know-how in these situations.

“Trossard, I think he’s a clever player. He gives you that pace and skill. He certainly gives you another option, which Arsenal needed.

“I think they were very astute and clever signings, which is exactly what Arsenal needed.”

EUROPA LEAGUE RETURNS FOR ARSENAL

It’s going to be interesting to see how Arteta manages Arsenal’s forthcoming Europa League knockout games against Sporting Lisbon.

Surely, given that Thomas Partey has just returned from injury, he won’t be starting against Ruben Amorim’s men, with Jorginho possibly coming in.

But pre-World Cup, Arteta did play the likes of Bukayo Saka in the Europa League, and even during games they had qualified, so don’t rule out a strong XI being put out on Thursday.
