Hammarby defender Mohanad Jeahze could be on his way to the MLS after a potential £2 million move to Scottish Premiership champions Celtic failed to materialise, according to Swedish publication Expressen

Until this weekend, Alexandro Bernabei had played just 12 minutes of league football under Ange Postecoglou. More performances like the one against St Johnstone on Saturday afternoon, however, and Greg Taylor may soon be glancing nervously over his own shoulder.

The all-action Argentine was in terrific nick in Perth, setting up Giorgios Giakoumakis’ 95th minute winner with a devilish cross from the left-hand side.

And with Bernabei now rivalling Taylor for a starting spot at Parkhead – ensuring a position once seen as a weak-link now looks like an area of real strength – it seems this particular ship has long since left the harbour as far as Mohanad Jeahze is concerned.

“I think I will stay at Hammarby,” the Sweden-born Iraq international said towards the end of the window, having previously labelled Celtic a ‘big club’ while confirming his desire to play at a higher level.

“You simply have to accept it. (The offers) may not have been enough for (Hammarby). I have patience. Maybe something else will come. It is clear that I want to go abroad at some point. Everyone has a dream of trying something new.”

Mohanad Jeahze missed out on £2m Celtic move

With Expressen reporting that several clubs on the other side of the Atlantic are taking a keen interest in the stylish, technically-gifted Jeahze, his next destination could be substantially more far flung than the green side of Glasgow.

Jeahze will soon be entering the final 12 months of his contract. Three goals and 10 assists from left-back – in just 33 games no less – are unlikely to go unnoticed. Especially when you consider that Hammarby will have to consider reduced bids for a player who deserves an opportunity to make his mark in a more high-profile division.

“He’s class. Really class right through,” Hammarby team-mate Darijan Bojanic tells The Sun of Jeahze. “There is no better left back in all of Sweden. He is better than the left-backs in the national team as well. He is the best.

“It’s how he is with the ball and his ability to run up and down the field all the time. He always makes good decisions. Mohanad’s passing is central to us on the pitch – all of that. He’s class.”
