Mohamed Salah was probably ‘very annoyed’ during Liverpool’s victory on Saturday, according to Dean Ashton.

The Reds recorded a 9-0 demolition of Bournemouth at Anfield to equal the most emphatic winning scoreline in Premier League history.

Salah has been one of Europe’s most prolific goalscorers in the five years since his transfer to Liverpool, winning multiple Golden Boot awards.

However, the Egypt international was bizarrely not among the goals during the rout of Scott Parker’s side, with Pat Nevin of BBC Sport stunned by his proflifacy.

He had a number of gilt-edged chances that he failed to convert, with one missed opportunity prompting a wry smile from the talisman.

And Dean Ashton believes that inside he was seething over failing to get on the scoresheet.

He told Sky Sports News on Sunday: “I’d be annoyed. I wouldn’t want to celebrate that much because I’d want to score and when there’s been so many chances and I haven’t scored, it would really annoy me.

“I wonder if that smile is him just accepting he’s going to miss chances or it’s his way of hiding that he’s really annoyed.”

How many Premier League goals does Mohamed Salah have this season?

Mohamed Salah has scored twice in this competition for Liverpool this season.

And that’s a problem for him because despite being a team player, individual awards are definitely of some importance to Salah.

And he’s already four goals behind Erling Haaland – who scored a hat-trick for Manchester City on Saturday – in the race for the Premier League’s Golden Boot.

And when someone like the Norway international has that sort of advantage, he’ll be extraordinarily difficult to catch.
