One of the stars of reality TV show The Only Way Is Essex has told his fellow West Ham United fans to be grateful for owners David Sullivan and David Gold.
West Ham co-owner David Gold
Hammers co-owner Gold recently warned supporters the grass isn’t always greener on the other side after coming under fire following the club’s tempestuous start to the season on and off the pitch.
West Ham brought the curtain down on 112 years of history at their beloved Boleyn Ground at the end of last season with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Manchester United.
And all eyes since have been on their big move to the 60,000 Olympic Stadium down the road in Stratford.
West Ham United vice chairman Karren Brady
Despite being hailed as the ‘most successful football migration in history’ by vice-chairman Karren Brady back in July, the move has been beset by problems casting the club into limelight further for all the wrong reasons.
A woeful start to life at their new home had left morale on the pitch and in the stands at a new low until Saturday’s hugely impressive 1-0 win away at London rivals Crystal Palace.
The stadium issues have driven a wedge between factions of supporters and the club’s owners.
Match stewards attempt to make West Ham United fans sit down
Brady, who was allegedly spat at by her own fans during the 4-2 home defeat to Watford, has been vilified after comments she made to business leaders about rebranding the club were reported out of context.
Then Gold responded on Twitter to one fan who told him it was ‘time to move on’, saying: “Sounds like you’re dumping your wife. Met someone younger have you? Be careful what you wish for.”
Now one of the stars of TOWIE, Elliott Wright, has told his fellow Hammers to be grateful for the two Davids in an interview with the club’s official website.
“We’ve moved massively forward since Gold and Sullivan took the helm,” Wright told whufc.com.
“The deal they’ve done (to secure the Olympic Stadium) is fantastic.
Wright has nothing but praise for Sullivan and Gold and Brady’s work on the Olympic Stadium deal
“You look at it and you’ve got West Ham fans that own the club and for me that means a lot, it’s massive.
“They’ve brought the club forward, we weren’t in a good position when they took it on and hopefully we can become a great club again.”
