The former England winger Trevor Sinclair has urged David Brooks to resist a January return to Sheffield United – if he is enjoying his football at Bournemouth.
United sold Brooks to Bournemouth in an £11 million deal in 2018.
In that time, the 23-year-old established himself as a Premier League force, and a regular for Wales, before the Cherries’ relegation last season.
Sheffield United were linked, among others, with Brooks in the wake of that setback.
But the former Manchester City kid remained at Bournemouth, for whom he has scored or assisted five league goals this campaign.
Jason Tindall’s side are second as a result and staring at an immediate return to the Premier League, where Sheffield United remain rooted to the foot of the table.
According to Talksport, the Blades boss Chris Wilder is ‘working extremely hard’ behind the scenes to bring Brooks back to Bramall Lane this winter, though Bournemouth ‘aren’t under any financial pressure to sell’.
But Sinclair told the broadcaster: “I think (Brooks would want to stay at Bournemouth).
“I look at the way he’s enjoying his football. You look at the situation with Sheffield United, they look in real trouble. I’m not sure they’re going to be able to stay up this season.
But certainly, he’s had a bit of time at Bournemouth. He’s got fit again. He looks like he’s enjoying his football.
“I’d say stay put, if you’re enjoying your football and you’re having success with the team, stay put.”
