Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have talked about the Leeds United fans on Match of the Day’s Top 10 Podcast.
The former Blackburn striker claimed that he ‘loved’ playing at Elland Road during his playing days, whilst Lineker labelled the Leeds fans as a ‘real strong and aggressive’ fan base.
The biggest shame about games being played behind closed doors is that clubs like Leeds cannot pack out their ground, especially after their promotion to England’s top-flight.
Nonetheless, this is what both Shearer and Lineker had to say about Elland Road when listing them in the top 10 worst places to go in English football.
“I loved Elland Road,” said Shearer. “It’s just one of those grounds. I just knew I was going to score goals.
“It’s a great atmosphere. But I just don’t know what it was. I loved going there and it was a happy hunting ground.”
Lineker added: “They had a quite real strong and aggressive fan base, didn’t they?”
Shearer responded: “Oh, they were boisterous.”
At the start of the season, with games being played behind closed doors, the one worry was that Leeds would get promoted without fans and then possibly get relegated without them.
But that’s not the case now that Marcelo Bielsa is guiding them to a possible top 10 finish.
