Newcastle target Borna Sosa – who has been compared to David Beckham – received praise from Jermaine Jenas during World Cup action on Monday.

What’s the story?

Well, Jenas – who made 152 appearances for Newcastle – was on commentary duty for BBC Sport as Croatia defeated Japan on penalties in their World Cup Round of 16 clash, with the game ending 1-1 after extra-time.

Interestingly, Sosa was not actually playing for Croatia against Japan due to a virus, but his still received praise from the 39-year-old.

The 24-year-old played 90 minutes in all three of Croatia’s Group F clashes, making a real impact on Jenas.

While Croatia were struggling against Japan in normal time, Jenas said: “They really miss Sosa down this left hand side, he brings real quality.”

It was Bild in Germany who revealed that Newcastle want to sign the VfB Stuttgart left-back.

The Bundesliga outfit are said to want £22m if they are to let their No.24 depart.

Fortunately for the VfB Stuttgart defender, he will get another chance to continue his World Cup adventure in Croatia’s quarter-final against Brazil on Friday, should he manage to shake off the virus.

Newcastle could have Beckham 2.0 in Borna Sosa

As aforesaid, Sosa has interestingly been compared to Beckham as a result of his exquisite technical ability.

It was the Bundesliga’s official website who made the claim, and his assist record certainly justifies it.

Sosa has impressively registered eight assists in just 13 appearances for VfB Stuttgart this season, after recording 11 goal involvements in 30 outings last term.

The Croatian is a fantastic technician, and if Eddie Howe can add him on the other side of Kieran Trippier, Newcastle would have two seriously dangerous outlets in the full-back department.

Be sure to keep an eye on Sosa, as a January move to St James’ Park is certainly possible.
