The Spaniards are said to be considering the Manchester United player if they cannot prise the Tottenham Hotspur star away from North London.

England's starting XI, (L-R top row) England's striker Marcus Rashford, England's defender Kieran Trippier, England's defender Michael Keane, England's goalkeeper Jack Butland, England's...

According to a recent report from Don Balon, which has a habit of stretching the realms of possibility at the best of times, Real Madrid will target Marcus Rashford if they cannot convince Tottenham Hotspur to part company with Harry Kane next summer.

The problem is, the two players are chalk and cheese, despite both being forwards, with the Manchester United youngster just starting on his journey while the Tottenham sensation is scoring for fun.

The latest report smacks of tombola journalism, throwing an alternative name into the hat simply because they are another young English forward without any sense of comparison between the two.

If Real cannot sign Kane – and let’s face it, the player will have to force a move for that to happen, which seems highly unlikely given his love for Tottenham – they are not going to turn their attention to Rashford just because he is another English prospect.

For now the Manchester United striker plays predominantly from the wing, and while he is expected to ultimately forge a career through the centre, he is unproven there on a regular basis.

Marcus Rashford of Manchester United during the Premier League match between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield on October 14, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

So far Rashford has scored 24 goals in 83 appearances for United, which is superb for a 19-year-old but pales in comparison with Kane’s 110 in 176 outings for Tottenham.

In short, if Real fail in their Kane pursuit they will look at an alternative who is scoring for fun in his own league, just as Kane is in England.

The Tottenham man is going nowhere, neither is Rashford, but to suggest the two are inter changeable at this stage of their respective careers is ridiculous.
