According to a report from Marca, Real Madrid’s 22-year-old central defender Jesus Vallejo is just a step away from completing a loan move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are looking to bolster their squad ahead of the new season where they will look to continue their outstanding progress both in the Premier League as well as in the Europa League. A long and daunting season which could potentially span over 50 games will take its toll on Wolves’ squad and new faces will have to be brought in for cover and competition.

Wolves enjoyed a sensational return to the Premier League last season and a lot of plaudits went to the likes of Raul Jimenez, Diogo Jota and Ruben Neves. However, their defence was extremely hard to break down even for the top teams and Nuno will be looking to build on that ahead of the new season.

Willy Boly, Conor Coady and Ryan Bennett were nothing short of brilliant last season but an injury or suspension to any one of them could seriously hurt Wolves. A new centre-half will certainly ease the pressure off of the trio and young Jesus Vallejo on loan would be a brilliant option.

Nuno Espirito Santo the head coach

A highly-rated young defender who was tipped by many to be Sergio Ramos’ successor, Vallejo’s short career has been hampered by injuries. The 22-year-old made just seven appearances for the Galacticos last season due to persistent muscular problems and his chances of nailing down a first-team role has taken a hit due to the arrival of Eder Militao.

A loan move suits both Real Madrid and Wolves considering the situation and Vallejo could thrive under the tutelage of Nuno next season. Vallejo impressing next season in the Premier League could prompt Madrid to give him a chance in the future but with just two years left on his current deal, Wolves would be smart to slide in an option to buy the hugely talented Spanish defender.
