Real Madrid are set to earn around €4m thanks to a clause in the contract of former striker Luka Jovic.

The Serbian departed the club for Fiorentina in 2022, but had a 50% sell-on clause in his deal at La Viola, and is now set to trade Serie A for the Turkish first division with a move to Galatasaray.

Jovic joined Real Madrid for around £52m (€60m) in 2019, but failed to make any impact before departing permanently last year, and it now seems that Europa Conference League finalists Fiorentina are also keen to move him on.

A report in AS revealed that his upcoming move to Galatasary will see him transferred for a fee in the region of €8m, and 50% of this will be paid to Los Blancos.

A small victory in an otherwise disastrous move

No one could have envisaged Jovic moving to Turkey at just the age of 25 when he initially joined Real Madrid. He arrived for a huge fee after thriving for Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring 27 goals as his side reached the Europa League semi-finals.

He managed just 16 league starts for Fiorentina last season and, despite scoring 13 goals across all competitions, it appears his time in Europe’s top leagues is coming to an end.

Jovic arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu in the same window as Eden Hazard, and both players have now departed with their contracts being terminated ahead of schedule. Both players had excelled for their clubs the season before, and both have found their careers faltering since.

The striker scored just three goals in 51 games for Real Madrid, as he found regular gametime difficult to come by. Having been behind Karim Benzema in the pecking order, and given the price Real paid, it is a mistake they will be keen to avoid again with their other investments.

Jovic was the ninth-most expensive player in the history of Real Madrid, behind the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, but ahead of superstars Luis Figo and David Beckham.
