Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is reported by the Independent to be “enamoured” with Tottenham Hotspur duo Harry Kane and Mauricio Pochettino.

There has been much talk in recent times about Madrid’s interest in Spurs’ top-scorer and manager, but Perez is having to look elsewhere because of the difficulty attracting either one is proving.

With Los Blancos so publicly courting Pochettino, and more vehemently Kane, if chairman Daniel Levy manages to retain the services of both this summer it would arguably be his best piece of business yet.

Real attraction waning?

In the past, once the reigning Spanish champions came calling Tottenham have been more or less powerless to resist, with Luka Modric and then Gareth Bale leaving for the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in successive years.

Levy managed to oversee financially strong deals for the club in both cases, but in the end it simply felt that the two sides were operating on different levels in the transfer market.

However, perhaps that notion is starting to shift – undoubtedly helped by the fact Spurs beat Madrid to top their Champions League group this season – and Perez is no longer getting his way when it comes to dealing with the North Londoners.

Levy has long been known as a tough negotiator and now that the club are mixing with Europe’s elite and more than competing on the pitch, it is giving them the platform to do the same off it.
